Chaplet of St. Raymond Nonnatus

Patron of childbirth, children, falsely accused people, fever, infants, midwives, newborn babies, obstetricians and pregnant women.

After much research, I created this chaplet myself, using the prayers of St. Raymond’s Novena.

Raymond was born to a noble family in Spain in 1204. He was delivered by caesarean operation when his mother died in childbirth. He felt drawn to the religious life, joining the Mercedarians. He spent his entire estate ransoming slaves. When his money ran out, he offered himself as hostage for several slaves. He was sentenced to death but spared due to the ransom he would bring. Suffering in captivity, a legend states that the Moors bored a hole through his lips with a hot iron and padlocked his mouth to prevent him from preaching (he converted several guards). He was tortured for continuing his evangelizing activities but was ransomed eight months later. On his return to Barcelona in 1239, he was appointed Cardinal by Pope Gregory IX, but died the following year.

As a ritual, locks are placed at his altar to stop gossip, rumours, false testimonies and bad talk. They are also used to keep secrets, stop cursing or lying and to guard priests who want to protect the secrecy of confession.

The Feast Day of St. Raymond Nonnatus is August 31. His Novena to obtain special favour is especially effective August 23-31.

I offer the Chaplet of St. Raymond Nonnatus in various colour combinations. Each chaplet comes with a prayer page and a plastic storage bag. Sample images and prices are shown below.
