Chaplet of St. Jean de Brébeuf

St. Jean de Brébeuf is a Canadian Martyr. He is one of eight Jesuit Missionaries from Sainte-Marie among the Hurons. I sat in meditation with him for one year before I was able to write this chaplet. He was extremely dedicated to Our Mother Mary which led me to include the Hail Mary prayer. It has thirteen beads, each representing the continuous years he spent living among the Huron peoples.

St. Jean de Brébeuf was born in France in 1593, joined the Jesuits (known as Blackrobes) at age 24 and was ordained as a priest in 1622. In 1625 he set off to New France (Canada) as a Jesuit Missionary with the intent of converting Indigenous peoples to Christianity. He was a gifted linguist and documented his life by writing long, detailed reports of his experiences while with the Hurons. These testimonies are a firsthand written account of a humble life of a future saint, as found in “Jesuit Relations”. One of his most important contributions was a dictionary/catechism that he wrote in the Huron language as he had learned to speak their language fluently. Brébeuf died a martyr’s death on March 16, 1649, age 56 at St. Ignace. We can look to St. Jean de Brébeuf as a heroic martyr: an example that teaches us to be brave against the trials of life and to look to God for our courage and perseverance.

I offer the Chaplet in the colour combination of red and black, with red representing martyrdom and black representing the black robes of the Jesuits. Each chaplet comes with a prayer page. Sample images and prices are shown below.
